Probability For Investors, With Henk and Steven Tijms

A lot of people ask me: how can I learn the fundamentals of probability? And having learned them, how can I apply them to investing? This week’s guests — the father-son duo, Henk Tijms and Steven Tijms — can help answer this. Henk (the father) has been teaching probability for decades. He not only understands the concepts really well; he also knows how best to teach them, what examples are most effective in getting the point across, what common mis-conceptions and mis-understandings people usually have about probability, etc. Henk has written many books on probability. My favorite is “Surprises In Probability” — which explains some of the most counter-intuitive things about the subject that trip people up. Steven (the son) did not have much formal training in probability. But he managed to figure out for himself the key concepts.
