Featuring a mix from Nick Sylvester, founder of Godmode (US). Simon takes over the second half, with new stuff from Susso, Chaos In The CBD, Rhythm Section, Carla dal Forno, Jenny Hval and more. From Nick: "this year i challenged all the artists on godmode to put aside the whole 'i'm an artist' thing and just make music that was necessary. work with new people, try new ideas, sing if you've never sung, use an alias if it makes you feel better. mostly: just do something that isn't just going through the motions of the quote unquote aspirational indie recording artist. i called it the faculty series, and for the last 41 weeks, we've released a new recording each monday. faculty is the name of the studio i built here in new york, and anything that's come out on the series this year has spent some time as electrical energy in that space. you can hear everything here: https://soundcloud.com/godmodeinternet/sets/godmode-presents-the-faculty i am incredibly grateful to our kiwi friends simon wallace and martyn pepperell, who have been so generous with their support of godmode for so long now. if you live in new zealand and know shamir or yaeji or soft lit or malory, it's probably because of one or both these guys. when simon asked if i could put together a mix for him it was a no-brainer. of course of course of course. i put together some fun stuff here. all of it is from the godmode crew. most of it is music you just shouldn't be hearing at this stage. with a few exceptions, every recording here is simply where we've left off at the time of writing. there will be fights about white noise, vocal levels, whether the bass sound is too 'donky'. leads will be replaced, choruses will be added, tambourines will be tampered with. this moment in a recording's life – not quite a demo, not quite an official version – is usually forgotten for a host of reasons. there are so many problems with so many songs here, which is why i'm not publishing the tracklist just yet. but, at some point in the process, this is what our music sounds like. i hope you find something to enjoy." @godmodeinternet facebook.com/friendlypotential www.r1.co.nz/programme/sunday/friendlypotential
