David Copeland - The Man Who Killed Immigrant Communities - True Crime DocumentaryIn April 1999 London was subjected to a two week campaign of terror at the hands of a lone bomber. 22 year old David Copeland targeted minority communities of the capital as he carried out his ruthless killing spree. Copeland was the middle child of three brothers but was noticeably smaller from an early age. He was marked out for bullying at school which led to a festering resentment. By late 1995, an increasingly isolated Copeland was getting out of control. He was drinking heavily and had started to take a variety of drugs. Unable to hold down a job he became convinced that the immigrant communities were 'stealing' the best positions. His views were further developed through membership of several extreme right wing groups but it was when Copeland struck out on his own that the bloodshed would begin .. Copeland planted 3 homemade bombs within the space of 2 weeks. All of the devices were packed with nails to cause maximum carnage. The first two explosions were detonated in Brixton and Brick Lane - 61 people were seriously injured. The final bomb was planted in the Admiral Duncan a gay bar in central Soho. Tragically, 3 people lost their lives and 74 others were injured. A huge manhunt was underway and thousands of hours of CCTV footage was analysed. Police finally managed to isolate a prime suspect and Copeland was arrested in his bedsit in Farnborough, Hampshire. He was convicted of three counts of murder and 3 of causing explosions.
